As we can foresee, the upcoming 5G mobile network will initiate a variety of related applications for connected technologies, including autonomous driving, AR/VR, video streaming, network security and high bandwidth connectivity. To fully realize the potential of these technologies, there are still technological bottlenecks, particularly latency, to be overcome. In today’s cloud computing architecture, the data generated from mobile users has to travel a long footprint to the cloud for processing, analytics and storage. In the case when a large number of users are generating data, latency will occur causing delays that impact user experience. To optimize the performance, edge data center appears to be the optimal solution. By deploying edge data center, the edge will function like a local cloud to execute data processing, analytics and storage for users, and this will minimize the data footprint and thus reduce the latency. User experience will be improved, as well as performance and reliability.
